 keeping the outlines

I feel that countless lines exist before us—lines that have emerged through human interaction with the world.
There are the contours of things people have made, and when an object is placed somewhere, a boundary appears.
What thoughts and intentions guide people as they make and use things? What do they hold in mind as they move through the continuity of everyday life?
I follow these lines as contours and boundaries.
By distinguishing what is visible one element at a time, I examine conditions such as gaps and dents, as well as the relationships between objects and their positions. In doing so, I am able to look more closely at the phenomena before me, careful not to overlook the traces of human action.
Bags piled carelessly on top of one another. Cables running along a wall.
Gradually, I become aware that these ordinary scenes—so easily taken for granted—exist because people are living their lives.
As if confirming the presence of those who inhabit these spaces, I continue to hold and follow the lines I have traced.
